Into the Grave is an honest album, presenting itself as the ugly, hairy and rugged behemoth that it is, and it is recommended only to the most honest of people. The guitar sound is so rotten, low tuned and underground while the drum is always pounding and bad ass. I was big into that album at the time and have been going back through their entire discography recently, and now I'm wondering why I didn't do that sooner. These production choices were not mere compensation for lack of originality, but actively bolster up the ethos of muddy sludge that is this album.
All of them had excellent songs and the debut from Grave has remained the most expressive full-length of their back catalogue, at least in my humble opinion.
Grave's sound is always welcome, not innovating anything and not trying to. The last Nails album is basically a Hatebreed album with blast beats so you might like bands such as Jesus Piece, Harms Way, weekend nachos, Leeched or Fuming Mouth.
It’s eleven tracks of ferocity that reminds me of all of the Swedish death metal acts that I have listened to. There are Autopsy-esque doom riffs thrown in, mid-paced Bolt Thrower ear-pounding, the patented d-beat punk of typical Swedish death metal, and plenty of those basic . In one of these passages, a sparser bit from album opener 'Haunted' finds a satisfying way to bring the bass out of hiding. And let us not forget the silent killer behind the kit, Jensa Paulsson.
